In AI the layer hierarchy will consist of: The copper layer has the gold colored circles that represent the pins, and the base shape of the board with no fill or outline. The silkscreen layer is all of the black parts of the image, including the outline of the board shape. The examples that I give consist of two Fritzing layers, the copper layer and the silkscreen layer. The easiest way to deal with the layers is to create your image all in two layers (silkscreen and copper1) and then add layers and move images around in the layer window when you are finished. However, the Fritzing layers do not directly correlate to AI layers- they are actually sub-layers as shown in the last image. The PCB view SVG consists of multiple layers so that the PCB view of the Fritzing image can have more layers. I used eps files for the logos on the Digilent Boards. If your logos don't show up when you upload it to Fritzing you need a different file format. You may also want to add logos to your parts. If you use one size and font a lot, which you will have to, it saves time to copy and paste in this template text box and change the text than start from scratch every time. For example, in my commonly used parts file I have switches (shown in PmodENC), screws (shown in PmodBB), buttons (shown in the chipKIT Pi), ports (shown in the chipKIT Pi), female and male pins (as shown in all examples), and circles for commonly sized holes. That way you only have to measure it and create it once and it helps with consistency. Note: If you plan on making multiple parts I extremely advise you to create a file of often used parts. Next add whatever other components you want to add. All what appears to be white circles in the examples are actually holes. You can create the shape you want to cut out and then use the remove front tool in the pathfinder. If the board is not exactly a rectangle it is easiest to cut out of the base rectangle rather than add shapes. Next choose the rectangle tool and draw the basic shape for the board. It is important that you actually measure the parts in your chosen units and use that for your images. The next thing you'll want to do is show rulers and right click on the ruler to pick what units you want to use. Name the file so it is clear exactly what that image is. The png files are for preview and if you would like to download the SVG files you can open them in either AI or Inkscape to look at the individual parts in the image.įirst, you'll want to open Illustrator or Inkscape and create a new file. I've included the SVG images and png images to this step. Throughout this tutorial I will use the PmodENC, PmodBB, and chipKIT Pi as examples. I usually begin making my parts by starting with the SVG image for the breadboard view. You may also want to download Fritzing templates for the three views, although I will include files for all three views of the example part I create in this tutorial. Fritzing uses OCR A and Droid Sans, both of which can be found here. The last thing you need to do download is the Fritzing standard fonts. I would recommend getting Inkscape and the 30 day free trial of Illustrator and testing them out before you decide to go for the purchase of Illustrator. The other option is to use Inkscape, which is free.įrom what I've experienced there are some compatibility issues between the two, but other than that people find one better than the other based on personal preference. If you'd like to try it for free you can always download the 30 day free trial.Ģ. I personally use Adobe Illustrator (Digilent has no affiliation with Adobe). These images need to be exported into SVG format.ġ. In order to make your parts, you need to make the images for all three views: breadboard, schematic, and PCB. I'll give them a shot, too.The first piece of software you will need, is of course, Fritzing, which is free. :)įor a free schematics tool with simulation ability, I recommend LTSpice. I did drop a question there, already, but then the forum struck me like being quiet and I thought I'll try it here, too, and indeed, I got all this useful feedback. The only drawback is that I cannot find the parts I need.į has a forum, that's the place to ask once you've checked out The schemes are very illustrative and easy to read by students (exactly like MarkT noted). Fritzing is very easy to use: parts are on the right and you just drag and drop them and connect them on the spot. I just need to draw a couple of schemes and be done with them. I did try Eagle (I still have it installed) but its use didn't appear very straight forward to me and I don't want to invest much time in learning such an application. I have not seen a good schematic created in fritzing. Fritzing doesn't seem much better than a toy. Try Eagle or other free PCB/schematic software.Įagle gets my vote.

I'm a long way from having it remotely sorted out and there's a lot to it aside from the much derided Marimba trills, but I find it extremely useful.Yeah, can't see myself needing marimba trills too often. That's one definite advantage it has IMO, over the XV. It's another useful tool for the toolbox to differentiate your stuff. Personally I think people should just take some time to learn how to use it's strengths (think 'Layering"). Also: As for the Supernatural/phys modeling, it's different (to me it's different in a good way) Some hate it, others are good with it. having pretty much the Roland library in one box has its advantages. I'm a long way from having it remotely sorted out and there's a lot to it aside from the much derided Marimba trills, but I find it extremely useful.īut all that aside, I don't regret buying it for a second. So far so good overall but a fully functional and integrated PC editor would be nice.īut all that aside, I don't regret buying it for a second. There are a few things that make me scratch my head about the way Roland implemented it's connectivity with the ipad that make no sense to me, but since I just got into hardware after a few years of/learning on softsynths, I basically built most of my HW setup to deal with it as best I know how anyway. Do you find the Integra easy to use via the front panel? Or do you pretty much need to use the editor? And if so, does the editor allow you to edit both types of patches (SuperNATURAL and PCM)? So I was hoping to hear from users who have replaced their XV-5080 with an Integra. But there may come a point where SoundDiver no longer works on the PC (as it no longer works on the Mac). So I still use SoundDiver to edit patches on the XV-5080. Incidentally, although Roland provides an editor for the XV-5080, it’s not very good, IMO (and no longer works on newer Macs). But I am not sure if it allows you to edit the “PCM sounds”, i.e., the traditional 4-tone, sample-based sounds as found in the XV-5080. The Integra plugin editor (Mac only at the moment) looks nice. But perhaps I am mistaken in this regard. The Integra on the other hand, seems to offer only a handful of buttons which would require you to cursor around a lot more. Not only are there different page buttons underneath the display for quickly navigating to the various parameter groups (TVF, TVA, etc.,) but there are also dedicated tone select and on/off buttons, and so forth. The XV-5080 would appear to be easier to edit and operate from the front panel given the greater number of dedicated controls. (Although I own an iPad, I am not really interested in the Integra iPad editor.) What I am not so sure about is the usability of the Integra, both from the front panel and via the plugin editor. So I am fairly knowledgeable regarding the features and limitations of the unit. I have read the Integra reviews and have studied its specs. I am toying with the idea of replacing my fully-loaded Roland XV-5080 with the new Integra 7 module. And the explosion that occurred when Vis was destroyed probably came from the android himself not the Mind Stone (which, I’m sure, sent out a wave of invisible psychic energy as it went, but that’s a discussion for another time). Now, you might say, “Hey, Vision’s Mind Stone didn’t cause that much damage when Scarlet Witch blew it up!” First of all, that was the Mind Stone. The “only problem” with that is that it takes out the entire solar system when you do. So, yeah, hold the stone to the ground for 20 rounds and poof! The whole planet is gone. I also wanted to make sure that the stone could wipe out a planet in a couple of minutes. A person with a power stone can cast disintegration as a reaction. I wasn’t happy with it being “action-based”, therefore, I made it bonus actions and reactions, too. In the end, I decided to give the stone’s wielder unlimited use of nearly every force damage or force power activated spell available in the Player’s Handbook along with spells that made sense with what Thanos does in the film (such as using “Bigby’s Hand” to smack away folks). Oh, and probably the rest of the planet, too. If you don’t possess the Infinity Gauntlet, have celestial or fiend blood of some sort, or have some other artifact that can withstand its energies, it’s going to wipe you out. The only balancing act I have in creating this thing is making sure that it’s not easy for just any schmo to use. It can’t be touched by mortals, either, instantly destroying nearly everyone that tries to hold it. It imbues its user with strength (not that Thanos really needed it) and can decimate entire planets. Also, it’s the one he seemed to favor in the movie, using it to blow up, well, damn near everything. Later, it appeared in Avengers: Infinity War as the first stone Thanos collected (off-camera). First, it appeared in the first Guardians of the Galaxy movie as the film’s McGuffin. The Power Stone makes two big appearances in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Anything less would dishonor the source material.Īllow me to reiterate again: these things are intentionally broken AF. Should a character (player or otherwise) come into possession of one of these damn things, all hell will and should break loose. Otherwise, feedback without anything to back it up gets ignored (or at most a smile emoji like this □ ) Thanks!Ī note on the broader creation of the Infinity Stone artifacts: in no way, shape or form do I intend to make these things balanced (sorry, Thanos). If you can give me a valid reason with examples why something is off, 9/10 I’m likely to make changes to the content and credit you for doing so. They aren’t officially part of the game.Ĭonstructive feedback is welcome and appreciated in either comments or social media. These game mechanics are in draft form, usable in your campaign but not refined byįinal game design and editing. The material here is presented for playtesting and to spark your imagination. To kick it off, I thought I’d start with the first stone that Thanos collected: the Power Stone. Eventually, I’d break down and create the Infinity Stones, the Gauntlet, and of course, everyone’s favorite purple villain, Thanos. Each player can see the cheat status of every other player via a column on the MAP screen. Once marked, your character is limited in certain ways when interacting with pure characters (for example, you can't give them money or items, nor can you hit them - unless they hit you first). Hence I decided early on in WoS to establish a two-track system, where cheating is officially allowed (though not necessarily encouraged), but your character is then marked as a cheat character. Soon cheating is rampant and you no longer have any way to distinguish between pure and cheated levels and ranks. Many would say: 'Don't allow cheating in a multiplayer environment!' However, my experience is (to paraphrase Jurassic Park) that: 'Cheaters will find a way.' If you specifically claim that no cheating is allowed, that just throws down a gauntlet of challenge. However, in a multiplayer game, it is important to distinguish between level achieved 'the hard way' or 'the easy way'. In a single-player game there is seldom an issue to be made about them. A year later, Falk launched a small website to host some of his game projects under the name "newground remix". The name of this fanzine was “new ground”, a synonym for Neo Geo. In 1991, he created a fan made magazine for members of the club which he would continue to produce throughout his time in 7th and 8th grade. Fulp also developed a passion for the Neo Geo series of gaming consoles and was at the time running an online club centered around Neo Geo using the prodigy web service. Soon, his interest expanded to include simple game design via html. In the early 1990s, internet pioneer and programmer Tom Fulp began to produce 2D stick figure animations on his Amiga personal computer for fun. The Stick Figure in Internet Culture 1990s: The Beginnings In 1934, graphic designer Rudolf Modley founded Pictorial Statistics Inc., bringing the isotope system to the United States for the first time in 1972.Ī video displaying the drawing of a stick man, stick woman, and a stick dog, respectively Neurath made significant use of the versatile stick figure design to represent individuals and statistics in a variety of ways. In 1925, Neurath began work on what would become the international system of typographic picture education, or isotype, a system of conveying warnings, statistics, and general information through standardized and easily understandable pictographs. He quickly established the idea that, while words and phrases could always be misunderstood, pictures had a certain unifying quality that made them a perfect fit for his project. In the early 1920s, Austrian sociologist Otto Neurath developed an interest in the concept of universal language. Tens of thousands of years later, writing systems that use images for words or morphemes instead of letters - so-called logographies, such as Egyptian and Chinese - started simplifying people and other objects to be used as linguistic symbols. Visual representations of people, animals, and depictions of daily life can be found displayed across the walls of numerous habitation sites all over the world. The stick figure's earliest roots are in prehistoric art - some of the most revealing and informative markers of early human life are cave paintings and petroglyphs, ancient depictions covering a variety of subjects left behind on stone walls. Over a period of more than two decades, stick figure animation impacted and shaped the visual landscape of the internet. With the advent of the world wide web, the stick figure became a central element within an entire genre of web-based interactive entertainment known as flash animation. Its simplicity and versatility led to the stick figure being used for a variety of purposes – info graphics, signage, comics, animations, games, film storyboards, and visual media of all kinds all employ the stick figure. It transcends language, location, demographics, and can trace back its roots for almost 30 000 years. The stick figure is a universally recognizable symbol, in all likelihood one of the most well known in the world. Details such as hands, feet, and a neck may be present or absent simpler stick figures often display an ambiguous emotional expression or disproportionate limbs. The arms, legs, and torso are usually represented by straight lines. On a stick figure, the head is most often represented by a circle, sometimes embellished with details such as eyes, a mouth, or hair. A stick figure, also known as stickman, is a very simple drawing of a person or animal, composed of a few lines, curves, and dots. |
